MUMBAI: After a lot of appreciation for Kesari, the makers came back with Kesari Chapter 2. The announcement of this new chapter garnered a lot of excitement.
Since a while now, audiences have been loving Akshay Kumar’s performances a little more, be it in Sarfira, Khel Khel Mein or Sky Force. The actor gave an amazing performance in the 2019 movie Kesari where he was paired opposite Parineeti Chopra.
The movie was based on the battle of Saragarhi which took place in 1897. The battle was an unforgettable one between 21 Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment of the British India Army and 10,000 Afridi and Orakzai Pashtun tribesmen.
The makers are here with the second chapter and the cast includes Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday. While Kesari was directed by Anurag Singh, this time, Kesari Chapter 2 is directed by Karan Singh Tyagi. The movie will be produced by Dharma Production, Leo Media Collective & Cape of Good Films. This time, the movie is based on the story of the unfortunate Jallianwala Bagh massacre which took place in April, 1919. The movie has hit the theatres and is receiving some really great responses from the audience.
In an exclusive conversation with Tellychakkar, Karan Singh Tyagi was questioned about the creative liberties taken to shape the story as there are many in the audience pointing out some flaws in the story showed.
Karan Singh Tyagi stood firm on his decisions and said, “When you are adapting a court case that lasted over months, into a 2-hours narrative, there are some decisions that I’ve taken and those decisions were taken keeping the family of Sankaran Nair on-board because the book that we were adapting has been written by Sankaran Nair’s great grandson Raghu Palat and and his wife Pushpa Palat. Toh we have combined characters, we have compressed timelines and we were very sure that we wanted our film to be watched by everyone in this country.”
He added, “When you are making movies on real life people and real life incidents, they need not be a photograph of that time, they can be paintings because in a painting, you get more freedom to paint, create interpersonal relationships, to create drama, that is what we did but we were very mindful that we cannot deviate from the soul of Sankaran Nair’s bravery and we cannot deviate from the factual realites of the Jalianwala Baug.”
