MUMBAI: The most wealthy actor or actress in any given generation typically holds the title of richest person in the film industry. Newer stars take over and inherit the legacy while older actors fade away. However, the Hindi film industry has not experienced this in any way. Despite the star's erratic fortunes, the richest actress in the industry—and, by extension, all of India—has remained steady for almost two decades.

Since the mid-2000s, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has held the title of richest actress in India. Since making her feature debut in the mid-1990s, the actress has acted in several high-profile motion pictures. The highest-ranking actress in India, Aishwarya has amassed a reputed wealth of over Rs 776 crore through a combination of endorsements,film payments, and business interests.

In terms of box office records, the last ten years have primarily belonged to Nayanthara, Anushka Shetty, and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in southern cinema, and Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra in Hindi films. In the past five years, Alia Bhatt's position on the charts has started to rise. However, none of these actresses even come close to matching Aishwarya. With a reported net worth of Rs 600 crore, Priyanka Chopra is ranked second, followed by Deepika Padukone at Rs 550 crore. Additionally, Alia Bhatt is said to be worth above Rs 500 crore. Even Aishwarya's peers, Kajol (Rs 250 crore) and Kareena Kapoor (Rs 485 crore), are far behind her.

It's interesting to note that Enthiran from 2010 was Aishwarya's final solo success. Since then, the box office has not supported any of her leading part films, including Sarbjit, Jazbaa, and Guzaarish. However, Aishwarya has changed her strategy to play minor but important roles in larger-scale motion pictures. For example, Ponniyin Selvan made Rs 800 crore at the movie office and received positive reviews for her performance. However, Aishwarya's domination over international brand endorsements for more than 20 years is what has made her extremely affluent. She has long served as the spokesperson for companies like Longines and L'Oreal. Her roles in Hollywood productions and on the Cannes red carpet have established her as a well-known figure worldwide. She is now the richest actress in India because of this.
