Movie Review: Creature 3D

Creature 3D
Starring-Bipasha Basu, Imran Abbas Director -Vikram Bhatt Ratings - * Some films fail because of pathetic storylines. For example, Humshakals. While others like Kochadaiiyaan fail because of plainly bad VFX effects. When the above two combine, the mixture is a disaster called Creature 3D. The film is so amazingly deplorable that one is forced to wonder what exactly Vikram Bhatt was high on while directing this so called fright story. And if Bipasha Basu felt Creature 3D could do what Humshakals didn't, we are sorry to say that the latter was a far entertaining bet. The story in a nutshell revolves around Ahana (Bipasha Basu) who shifts to the scenic Himachal Pradesh to set up a new resort named Glendale business on a loan taken from an unidentified bank. With forest as the main attraction, Ahana hopes to pay off her dad's debtors by making brisk business from the resort. Unfortunately, a powerful demon unknown to mankind lurking in the woods nearby wrecks havoc on her business plans by terrorising and mercilessly killing her guests and employees. Ahana with the help of her lover Karan (Imran Abbas) teams to take stock of the situation and eliminate the monster before he can cause any further harm. Creature 3D fails on multiple counts but it is the entry level animated effects that lets the film down in a big way. While on one hand, Vikram should be applauded for seeking to induce fear with the help of a monster instead of his usual ghosts and other evil spirits, a botched VFX job spills dirty water on his right intentions. The Creature in the movie looks more like a cross between Predator, Godzilla, Anaconda, the croc from Lake Placid and all other monster based Hollywood movies that one can imagine. While the movie does well in the major part of the first half by maintaining the suspense over the creature, it loses its plot when it unveils the one-dimensional creature who to be fair doesn't look too menacing in the absence of any supernatural powers. Vikram then does the unthinkable by going to the extent of connecting its existence to mythology to create a new mythical creature called Brahm-Raksha, a cursed being who preys on humans. Aarrghh! After the debacle of Humshakals, Bipasha was looking to hit the bull's eye with Creature. She tries to be a Mardaani by taking on the creature in a single handed battle with little aid from her sidekick lover Imran Abbas. Unfortunately, there is not much to show-off in terms of acting skills. All that she could do is shriek, cry and run. Bipasha emotes well in the melodramatic sequences but fails to look convincing while being chased by the Creature. Causing ennui of boredom is the unconvincing love story between Bipasha Basu and Pakistani import, Imran Abbas. The latter unfailingly sports only one expression throughout the film. The story too barely allows them to display anything else. The rest of the starcast isn't worth mentioning. Mukul Dev playing a scientist makes an appearance to kill the Creature. Wonder why scientists and not policemen were involved in the hunting operation. Also missing this time is sex, the vital element of all Bhatt movies. Sex siren Bipasha too seems to have now taken voluntary retirement from bold scenes and prefers to cheat kiss in the movie. Developing cold feet, are we? The songs too except Mohabbat Barsa De are real dampeners. We really can't pinpoint one compelling reason why one should watch Creature 3D. Even die-hard fans of Bipasha Basu can give this one a miss.
