NICOLAS CAGE’S NEW HORROR FILM LONGLEGS, RECEIVES 100% FRESH RATING ON ROTTEN TOMATOES, WITH CRITICS CALLING IT ‘THE SCARIEST FILM OF THE DECADE’

Maika Monroe

MUMBAI : Although Longlegs will be in theaters on 12th July, the first international reviews are in. "Longlegs is one of the scariest and best films of the year, hands down," writes Dread Central's Mary Beth McAndrews. The sentiment is replicated in other reviews, as well, with Slashfilm's Bill Bria agreeing that, "It's the most terrifying horror movie of 2024, a film that gets under your skin and may never get out."

National, xx June 2024: PVRINOX Pictures is thrilled to bring to Indian theatres, ‘ Longlegs ’, a crime, horror-thriller that packs a terrifying powerful punch. The eerie film directed by Osgood Perkins is all set to stun audiences this July 12th. The upcoming release features a stellar cast including Nicolas Cage, Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Kiernan Shipka, Alicia Witt, Michelle Choi-Lee and Dakota Daulby.

The story follows a talented, new FBI agent, Lee Harker (Maika Monroe), who has been assigned to an unsolved case of serial murders. As the investigation progresses, the clues start to get more and more complicated. Harker begins to uncover occult references in the hints left by the killer. The case becomes further complicated when she discovers a potential personal connection to ‘longlegs’.  Lee runs to fight against time, before the ruthless criminal claims the lives of more innocent people.

Throughout the trailer, viewers are not given the luxury of a face reveal of the serial killer, ‘longlegs’. It begins with Agent Lee Harker at home, who is startled by a loud knock followed by a faint ‘cuckoo’. As she goes out, armed, the window into her home reveals a blurry yet evident figure walking inside. The director teases the audience with such instances, revealing only bits and pieces of the killer, just like the hints appear.  Agent Harker relies on her instincts to solve a series of murders, who only hold the evidence of cryptic, coded messages signed by “ Longlegs ”.

Internationally, the film is garnering rave reviews from critics from the early screenings. “Longlegs gets under your skin and stays there, immersing you so thoroughly in the repulsive, discomforting nature of evil through terrifying imagery and a tactile atmosphere that it’s unshakable." says Meagan Navarro from Bloody Disgusting. Katie Rife, IGN India writes, “Director Osgood Perkins brings his signature style to a serial-killer procedural that combines grisly true-crime aesthetics and uncanny Satanic horror.” In addition to these exceptional reviews, Longlegs boasts a ‘100% Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Longlegs is a celebratory tribute to the classic, cult horror along with exciting crime elements to add a clever twist. Osgood Perkins aims to keep audiences engaged with his version of a murder mystery involving surrealistic aspects which turn the story into a cosmic horror tale, making it appear realistic and giving the effect of a true-story, crime aesthetic.

Keep your eyes on the big screen to view Nicolas Cage’s terrifying performance as Longlegs. Catch the psycho-killer chase in theatres on 12th  July.
