Even though the Censor Board has been put in place by Bombay High Court, which favoured Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab over Pahlaj Nihlani-led Central Board of Film Certification, the committee has reared its head again by stalling a small-budget Indie film.
Haraamkhor, starring Nawazudding Siddiqui and Shwetha Tripathi in the lead, is the story of a tuition teacher’s illicit affair with his underage student.
Despite the movie bagging big laurels across the world, the committee has refused to certify the movie, thus hindering its release in India, a leading site has reported.
One of the producers of the film spoke to the site regarding the issue and said, "They said they can't give us a certificate because the entire theme of the movie is objectionable.”
While elaborating more on the topic, a source close to the film further revealed to the site, “Their main issue is that teachers are revered people in society and they can't be shown having an affair with an underage girl. They also had some objections with the depiction of children making lewd gestures, using profanity, and committing acts of violence."
Since a court battle with the censor board, like Udta Punjab, is mostly out of the question as the movie is made via crowd-sourcing, the makers are planning to approach the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal for a fairer deal, the site stated.
