Bollywood legends Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar were honoured with second highest civilian awards of the country, Padma Vibhushan. The BJP-led government announced the list of Padma awardees for 2015 and apart from Amitabh and Dilip, a host of other personalities from the field of art were chosen. Let’s take a look at the awardees.
Padma Vibhushan, the country’s 2nd highest civilian honour was given to Amitabh Bachchan and thespian Dilip Kumar, both from Maharashtra. Both are doyens of the Hindi film industry and the award is extremely well-deserved. Dilip Kumar who is battling constant ill-health these days made great name and fame as the ultimate tragedy king of India. The legend long retired from movies and today lives with his doting wife Saira Banu who takes great care of him.
Amitabh has redefined Indian cinema, both in films and television world. The septuagenarian continues to be rock steady in films in current times giving other younger superstars a run for their money. Though Amitabh has remained apolitical for long now, his indirect admiration for Modi is quite well-known.
A number of leading lights for Bollywood were conferred with Padma awards. They include noted director Sanjay Leela Bhansali who has given Bollywood world class riveting cinemas time and again most famous being Black, Devdas and Ram-Leela.
Acclaimed lyricist and ad-man Prasoon Joshi too has been chosen for Padma awards. Music director Ravindra Jain too made it to the privileged list this year along with noted Gujarati playwright Taarak Mehta.
