Pushpa 2, Game Changer, Kalki 2898 AD, Kanguva, Coolie, Devara part 1: Hindi biopics tanking, South movies working, here’s why

It is very much visible how the hype for South movies is much higher than hype for Hindi movies and it’s clearly not about the superstars alone.

MUMBAI: Wait! It’s already been 5 months into 2024? This was fast. Let’s note down some the hit Hindi movies shall we? So we have movies like Article 370, Shaitaan, Teri Baaton mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Crew, and Laapataa Ladies. It feels as if the year has just begun.

However, until now we haven’t seen as much hits as we have seen flops and the surprising part was that some of the flop movies had a great hype around them. Well, there’s something else that the audience has noticed and it’s the trend of ‘true incidents’. Yes, fans are pointing out how so many Hindi movies come with the tag of ‘Inspired by true events’, ‘based on true events’, ‘inspired by true incidents’ and what not.

While there nothing seems to be wrong with the formula, we can see the type of hype and the quality of stories coming from the South Indian movie industry. The second of the year is filled with releases like Pushpa 2: The Rule, Kalki 2898 AD, Devara: Part One, Game Changer, Indian 2 and Coolie.

It is very much visible how the hype for South movies is much higher than hype for Hindi movies and it’s clearly not about the superstars alone. It seems as if the audience is waiting for original stories and characters more than stories which are inspired by true events or based on real life stories. Though the ‘true events’ formula isn’t bad, we can say it’s a hit and miss, the same risk that’s there in original stories.
