MUMBAI: In today's retro movie news segment let us remember Dev Anand sahab was the golden boy of the golden era of Hindi cinema. One of the privileged actresses who got the opportunity to share screen space with the legendary Dev sahab was Waheeda Rehman. A fan page of the actress titled Movies N Memories shared an interview of Waheeda where she remembered Dev Anand's fond touch, on her first film with him and Madhubala.
Waheeda had said, "Whenever he met his heroines, be it Nanda, Sadhana, Asha Parekh or me, Dev would affectionately put his hand on our shoulder. But we never minded it because he had such a clean vibe. If others were to do so, we'd move back. The heroes would remark that we don't object to Dev saab. But when we come even a bit close, you move away. Some people had a lecherous vibe. They wouldn't leave your hand if they happended to hold it... but Dev always gave me a safe feeling."
She further remembered her first movie CID with Dev and said, "My very first film in Hindi 'C.I.D.' was with Dev Anand. I was a big fan of Dev Anand and Madhubala. So can you imagine my excitement and nervousness at doing a film with him." "On the very first day on the sets, when I called him 'Dev saab' he turned around and said 'No no, call me Dev'. I couldn't bring myself to call him by his first name, that wasn't my upbringing. So I suggested I call him 'Anandji'. He glared at me and said, 'Do I look like a schoolteacher to you?' The next day when I called him 'Dev saab', he looked around as though he didn't know whom I was addressing. I had to finally call him 'Dev'. And 'Dev' he remained until the end".
