Aretha Franklin's documentary to release after 46 years

Forty six years after an Aretha Franklin gospel concert film was shot and abandoned, the late singer's documentary Amazing Grace will finally get released.

The Franklin estate and producer Alan Elliott have reached an agreement to release Amazing Grace. Although no distribution deal is yet in place for a planned general release in 2019, the film will premiere next week at the DOC NYC festival, followed by week-long Oscar-qualifying runs this month in Los Angeles and in December in New York.

"In recent weeks, Alan presented the film to the family at the African American Museum here, and we absolutely love it," Sabrina Owens, the late star's niece and executor of her estate, told by leading publication.

"We can see Alan's passion for the movie, and we are just as passionate about it. It's in a very pure environment, very moving and inspirational, and it's an opportunity for those individuals who had not experienced her in a gospel context to see how diverse her music is. We are so excited to be a part of this," added Owens.

The film was originally scheduled to premiere at the Telluride and Toronto festivals in 2015, before Franklin's lawyers were granted an injunction in court in Denver halting the showings.

Her attorneys argued the singer had the right to deny the use of her likeness in the movie, while Elliott maintained that all rights had been granted when he bought the uncompleted footage from Warner Bros.

Following the Telluride standoff, Elliott and Franklin's team agreed to negotiate in good faith with the aim of making the singer a partner in the movie; as Variety reported, separate distribution deals with Lionsgate and Concord were on the table before talks stalled as Franklin grew more ill.

The legal wrangling created the appearance of enmity between camps, and the late singer was not always an easy read when it came to business matters.

But Franklin had told the Detroit Free Press that she "loved" the movie, a DVD edit of which Elliott had sent her years ago, media reported.

The film straightforwardly documented what many Franklin buffs consider to be her greatest performance, a two-night stand of pure gospel music recorded with an ace band of Atlantic Records musicians and the Rev. James Cleveland's choir at a South-Central Los Angeles church in January 1972 - as released in audio form later that year.

Elliott hopes for a Detroit premiere in April, with plans to involve the Poor People's Campaign and Clean Water for Flint on a charitable level.

Idris Elba gets his own Twitter emoji

Actor Idris Elba, this year’s sexiest man alive, has earned a Twitter emoji of his own.

Elba was named PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive on Monday night and fans of the actor can unlock his emoji on Twitter by writing out #SexiestManAlive, reports of leading publication.

The 46-year-old Avengers: Infinity War star frequently uses Twitter and is a popular topic of discussion on the social media site with more than 1.4 million Tweets about him this year.

His most retweeted tweet so far was a cheeky closeup photo of his face with a filter in which he wrote, "My name's Elba, Idris Elba."

With a massive fanbase, Elba's admirers have also frequently used other emojis when tweeting about the actor.

Elba has kept up a busy schedule. The actor appeared as Heimdall in the latest instalment of the Avengers franchise and is returning to the TV series Luther for four episodes in season 5.

He is currently filming Hobbs and Shaw, the spinoff for The Fate of the Furious which focuses on Dwayne Johnson's character Luke Hobbs forming an unlikely alliance with Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham.

Elba is also in talks to star in the musical film adaptation of Cats alongside Taylor Swift and Jennifer Hudson.

Craig has 'mastered' binge drinking

James Bond star Daniel Craig says his level of fame has forced him to master binge drinking.

"I've got this window of opportunity in pubs of about 30 minutes," the 50-year-old said, reports the Daily Star.

"After that things start happening and it's not relaxing any more. I've got really good at drinking 18 pints in half an hour. I like to have a drink, and I love pubs and I love finding new pubs and places to socialise. But that has a limit on it now."

He said smartphones are to blame for ruining his nights out because he is constantly mobbed by fans asking him to pose for selfies, reports of publication.

He said he has no problem with signing autographs all day long or for posing for the odd picture, but that being photographed all night long in a bar "p****s" him off.

The star said that people in the movie business all talk about the good old days when they could go to a bar and get so drunk they'd fall over without worrying that someone was going to get pictures and videos of them.

Craig said he "can't live a normal life" thanks to the fact that "everyone's got a camera".

Rihanna slams Trump for using her music at rallies

Singer Rihanna posted a scathing tweet about US President Donald Trump using her music at Republican rallies.

The Barbadian artiste's attention was drawn to a tweet which mentioned that Rihanna's Don't Stop the Music was blaring at a rally as aides tossed free Trump t-shirts into the crowd, reports by media.

In response, Rihanna tweeted, "Not for much longer... me nor my people would ever be at or around one of these tragic rallies, so thanks for the head's up!"

Prior to her tweet about Don't Stop the Music, Rihanna had endorsed Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum for Governor of Florida in the midterm elections.

"You have the opportunity to make history this election," she wrote on Instagram, addressing the US voters who will head to the polls on Tuesday.

"The US has only had four black governors in its entire history, and we can help make Andrew Gillum the next one and Florida's first," she added.

The Grammy award-winner is the latest prominent artiste to denounce Trump for using their music to promote causes they do not believe in. Pharrell Williams sent a legal challenge over his use of the song Happy on the day of the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre.

Grande, Cabello bond over high ponytails

Singer Camila Cabello praised fellow singer Ariana Grande for her signature hairdo -- the high ponytail.

Cabello paired her red dress with an up-do for an event and later called on Grande for some guidance, reports by leading publication.

"Dearest Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to introduce our little girl Westlyn Reign Brolin (Bean)," he wrote of a video showing the newborn sound asleep, reports of media.

"Mama Kathryn was stellar during this miracle birth and Bean is a flawless gem through and through. We are blessed to the core and appreciate so much the love and support during this pregnancy from all who have partaken in our journey, directly and/or indirectly," he added.

Brolin, 50, has two other children, Eden, 24, and Trevor, 30, from his first marriage to actress Alice Adair. His second marriage was to actress Diane Lane, with whom he had no children. The latter pair stayed married until 2013.

Boyd, 31, is the creator of Midheaven Denim, a line of jeans for taller women. The 5'11" new mother is also a model and was Brolin's personal assistant before the two became engaged in 2015. The couple married in 2016.

The Avengers: Infinity War actor announced the couple's pregnancy on Instagram in May.

"There's a new sheriff in town and she is no bigger than a sweet potato. Hang on to your hats," Brolin captioned the photo slideshow of Boyd showing off her baby bump.

The new baby girl's step-grandmother is icon Barbra Streisand. The Funny Girl star, 76, has been married to fellow actor James Brolin, 78, since 1998.

Kim Kardashian says Tristan Thompson will 'never change'

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian West says Canadian basketballer Tristan Thompson, who has cheated on her sister Khloe Kardashian, will never change.

The Sunday night episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians took fans inside Thompson's cheating scandal and revealed how Khloe and her famous family reacted in real time.

When photos and videos surfaced of Thompson, 27, getting close to another woman just two days before Khloe, 34, welcomed their daughter on 12 April, the mother-to-be was in Cleveland, and reports suggest so.

As the news broke, cameras captured Kim, Kourtney (Kardashian), Kendall (Jenner) and Kylie (Jenner) all reacting separately back in Los Angeles, furiously texting one another about it.

"There's (a) video of Tristan making out with a girl last night," said Kim, 38. "Khloe's going to die. She's literally going to go into labour over this.

"I can't even imagine being in Khloe's shoes, just how reckless it all seems - this is really shocking and obviously heartbreaking," added Kourtney, 39. "The whole thing makes me disgusted."

"She kicked him out. He left the house," revealed Kendall, 23. "We're trying to get her to come home."

Kylie, 21, was the one to break the news to her sister, reports suggest so. "No one had the courage to tell Khloe because we knew she was days away from giving birth," Kylie said.

She added, "We didn't want to stress her out, but we knew that it was the right thing to do. So I'm the one that told Khloe. I didn't want to hurt her feelings, but I felt like she should hear from one of us versus on the Internet."

Finally, Khloe called Kim crying, admitting that she wanted to fly back to Los Angeles but wasn't sure if she could travel so late in her pregnancy.

"You just have to worry about yourself right now and be calm," Kim said.

"I can't be calm," Khloe said. "Not right now."

Kim admitted to feeling "helpless" over the situation as Khloe tried to figure out what she wanted to do and she also said that she had been hearing about even more rumours of Thompson's infidelity.

"Honestly, so many more stories are coming out. So many friends are calling me with so many more things. I told her, ‘What are you going to get out of him? Think about it. You're going to be worried and nervous and have an insecure life, because if he's not faithful now, he'll never change.'

"When one thing comes out you're kind of like, well, okay, maybe the video's old or maybe it's a misunderstanding. Because a picture doesn't always tell the full story. But then two more stories come out. This is just crazy. Now you know it's true," Kim added.

Justin Bieber 'feels something is missing' from life

Pop star Justin Bieber is "feeling something is missing" even though his life is filled with plenty to be grateful for, including his wife, Hailey Baldwin.

"Justin has his up and down days like everyone else," a source close to Bieber said.

"What he struggles with mostly is that he knows he is beyond blessed, but he has days when he feels empty and confused."

"He feels something is missing from his life that can't be bought. It's a missing feeling of happiness, he is very much grateful for his amazing life and especially for Hailey. It's difficult for him that he can't just enjoy everything and feel happy. He has been in treatment for this before," the source added.

The pop singer, 24, who was photographed visibly upset on multiple occasions last month, smiled while walking with his arm around Baldwin during a morning coffee run in Los Angeles last week.

Bieber, who recently shaved his head, was dressed casually in a blue jacket and grey sweatpants. Baldwin, 21, also opted for a low-key look, wearing a pair of black leather pants, a black sweatshirt and a white jacket.
