MUMBAI: Thane court has ordered that famed Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar be served with a show-cause notice in connection with a defamation complaint brought against him for allegedly comparing the RSS to the Taliban.
RSS activist Vivek Champanerkar has filed a lawsuit against Akhtar in the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate and joint civil judge (senior division). The issuance must be mailed by November 12th, according to the court.

Early this month, the 76-year-old poet, songwriter, and screenwriter sparked outrage when he told a television channel that right-wing movements around the world have an uncanny connection.
The complainant's lawyer, Aditya Mishra, fought in court for a long time, claiming that the defendant (Akhtar) made "derogatory" remarks about the RSS while appearing on a private news channel's show.

The former Member of Parliament said without naming the Nagpur-headquartered Hindutva organisation, “The Taliban want an Islamic country. These people want to make a Hindu Rashtra,"
He claimed the defendant's words were intended to denigrate such groups by "drawing a link between the savage Taliban and organisations working for the Hindu cause."
