MUMBAI : Tumbbad starring Sohum Shah re-released in theatres on September 13, 2024, breaking its previous record. The film surpassed the box office collection it earned when it was initially released in 2018. And now it has earned another milestone, the film is the top performer among re-released films, earning the highest ticket sales.
The film has managed to sell 1075k tickets beating Ghilli which follows with 439k ticket sales. Ranbir Kapoor’s Rockstar stands at 3rd position with more than 300k sales and Murari stands at fourth position with 258k ticket sales. Gabbar Singh at fifth position has sold 210k tickets followed by Shah Rukh Khan’s Kal Ho Naa Ho which is currently running in cinemas has sold around 105k tickets. Indra stands in 7th position with 85 thousand ticket sales.
In Tumbbad, Sohum Shah plays the lead role of Vinayak, who embarks on a treacherous journey to find a hidden treasure that holds the key to breaking the curse that plagues the village of Tumbbad. Shah's performance is compelling because it encapsulates the complexity of Vinayak’s evolving ambition, greed, and guilt. The film’s unusual and unique storyline stood out even during its re-release.
Rahi Anil Barve directed Tumbbad, while Sohum Shah, Aanand L. Rai, Mukesh Shah, and Amita Shah produced it. The narrative centers on the rural community of Tumbbad, where an ancient, evil, and hideous entity guards an incalculable ancestral riches hidden in a crumbling castle.
