MUMBAI : In today's retro movie news segment let's remember Sunil Dutt on his birth anniversary. He was called Chote Diwan Saab in  Khurd, Pakistan, where he was born in a village. He came from a society where the social standing of a person was defined by where he came from. After the partition, Sunil made his mark in Hindi movies and got commendable respect. When he saw his son Sanjay Dutt handcuffed in front of everyone, the late actor had once said that whatever 'izzat' he had earned turned into dust. The Chote Diwan Saab also spoke about the time when Sanjay did not listen to his parents in an interview with Simi Garewal.

"A child gets independent at boarding school. And when he comes back, he doesn’t want to listen to his parents", Sunil had said. A druggie, Sunil was born with a silver spoon and had got into drugs since his college time and it increased after his mom Nargis passed away in 1981.

Sunil had revealed in the same interview that once Sanjay passed away post 48 hours due to overconsumption of drugs. The late actor, in the same interview, had said, "One day he came to me. He said ‘Papa, I want to stop using drugs’. I said I am with you". Sunil had also felt at that time that it was his duty to remove his son from the situation.

For the unversed, Sanjay has two sisters Namrata and Priya Dutt who are younger than him. Sunil also remembered the time when his son had become aggressive as his drug habit became bad post his mom passed away.
