WB govt. to name road after Suchitra Sen
Hours after her death, the West Bengal government announced that a portion of the Ballygunge Circular Road where Suchitra Sen lived in an apartment will be renamed as Suchitra Sen Sarani. This was announced by the state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She also said that a memorial of the late actress would be constructed at Mysore Garden in front of the crematorium at Keoratala where she was cremated. In a Facebook post, Banerjee noted, “I am personally very touched. We were very hopeful that she would recover from her illness and go back home soon. Doctors and hospital staff did their best. People prayed so much. But finally, the end came.” Here it may be noted that the Chief Minister visited the actress at least seven times at the Belle View Hospital, where she was admitted. Earlier, the State government had conferred its highest award ‘Banga Bibhushan’ on Ms. Sen in absentia in 2012.
