Rajkummar Rao met actor Patralekhaa early in his acting career; he refers to her as his go-to person. In an interview with the well-known news portal, Rao quickly responded that she plays the "most important" role in his life when questioned about the significance of meeting her.

He reflected, “She became my strength, and my guiding force. She is the love of my life, she is my wife now and I, her husband. She is my go-to person for everything. When I am in the lowest point in my life, I go to her. When I am the happiest, I would go to her. So, she’s the one thread that has held me together in my bad days and good days.”

The actor was an outsider when he first entered the Hindi cinema industry, has become a superstar through his hard work and ability to carve out a space for himself.

Rao recalled his early years and humble beginnings and shared, “I have come from nowhere. I come from a very humble beginning. I didn’t grow up with money around me. Journey wasn’t easy. It was tough. Starting from my theatre days in Delhi, where, sometimes, I didn’t have enough money to take the state transport. So, I would cycle 70kms up and down. Then coming to Mumbai after FTII (Film and Television Institute of India), it is an expensive city. So, just to survive here was a task. Didn’t know anyone, where to start, who to meet, etc. I used to figure out my way.”

Rao is appreciative of his family, particularly his mother, who had faith in his abilities, dedication, and hard work.

“My mother was always there with me, supporting and motivating me that it would work out and to just be honest and be sincere to what you do. She knew how passionate I am about what I do. So, those blessings and god just showed me the right way and I met the right people. [My journey] started with LSD. Money was still a problem for a long time even after when I started working. But money was never the motivation factor for me,” said Rao.
