Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone Helps You Grow": Shweta Gautam Reflects on Challenging Roles

Suman

MUMBAI: Shweta Gautam is lighting up our screens with her heartfelt portrayal of Hema in the popular show Suman Indori produced by Prateek Sharma and Parth Shah (Studio LSD). We sat down with Shweta to learn more about her role, her experiences, and what it’s like to work with the talented team behind the show.

When asked about her connection to the character of Hema, Shweta Gautam shared how she relates to Hema’s loving and selfless nature as a mother. "Hema, like you know, she's a mother who just loves her children and can do anything for them," she explained. Shweta revealed that having a young daughter of her own allowed her to deeply connect with the role.

Shweta has been a part of Studio LSD for quite some time. "Working for LSD has always been a pleasure. Sometimes I tell them, don't let me go anywhere, let me be part of LSD only. Go on making great shows and let me be a part of it forever," she says with a laugh. Having worked with them on previous projects like Pukaar Dil Se Dil Tak, Shweta feels like part of a family. "It's really a unit worth waiting to work with."

As a seasoned actor, Shweta understands the importance of stepping outside of her comfort zone. "Sometimes it is difficult. You need to get out of your comfort zone because then you grow as an artist," she reflects. "Even when we are doing any negative character, a part of you is always in a character that you play." While Shweta is often associated with positive roles, she admits to enjoying her early career's more complex, negative characters. "In the initial stages of my career, I have done a couple of shows with negative shades, and I have enjoyed it to the fullest because I feel that behind that innocent-cute face, it can also have a very clever type of mind."

While filming Suman Indori, there have been countless light-hearted moments that keep the atmosphere on set fun and playful. "Every second day, there is some funny thing that keeps happening," Shweta shares.

"What has touched me the most during this process is parting away from Rishi," she confesses, referring to her co-star Arunam, who played Rishi. "Rishi, because he is adorable. He's a fantastic actor. And Arunam is a very nice boy. He makes you feel like a mother. He takes care of you. And he has such a positive vibe about himself that I think everybody in the show loves him. And Shooting his death sequence was very, very heartbreaking and like we would cry without using glycerin. It's been a very emotional journey attached to him. And not shooting with us, we really feel that place is empty."

As for how the audience connects with the show, Shweta feels that Suman Indori has touched the hearts of viewers from all walks of life. "The audience is completely connected with our show already and we are very grateful to the audience. We have received a lot of love and support from all the age groups." She mentions the affection for various characters, from the strong and inspiring Suman (played by Ashnoor Kaur), Anita (Devika) to the charming Netaji (Zain Imam). "There are so many people I know who love Anita, and I think she's the best looking woman on our show," Shweta adds with a smile.

"It's a very different concept because it has a love story, family dynamics, a political angle, and the Devrani-Jethani angle. All the emotions with every family member… it’s a beautiful story, " she ends
