MUMBAI: Dipika Kakar, a beloved figure in Indian television, first captured hearts with her iconic portrayal of Simar in Sasural Simar Ka.
She even made a brief return when the show’s second season launched, before stepping away from daily soaps and the small screen altogether.
In recent years, Dipika has ventured into different avenues, appearing in several music videos alongside her husband, actor Shoaib Ibrahim. More importantly, she has embraced motherhood wholeheartedly since the birth of her son, Ruhaan, in June last year.

Balancing her family life with various endeavours, she has also found success as a vlogger, sharing intimate glimpses of her life on YouTube. Additionally, she forayed into the fashion industry, launching her own clothing brand, Label DKI.
Dipika made a spectacular comeback to television by participating in Celebrity MasterChef India. Right from the start, she proved to be a formidable contender, wowing the judges with her culinary prowess.
She was even the first contestant to win the coveted immunity pin but later made the bold decision to forfeit it, choosing to challenge herself further in the competition. Her dedication and passion quickly made her a fan favourite, with many believing she could go on to win the title.
However, in an unforeseen turn of events, Dipika has now confirmed her departure from the show due to health concerns.
The actress opened up about her exit in her latest YouTube vlog, detailing the struggles she faced behind the scenes. She revealed that she had been experiencing persistent pain and, after consulting a doctor, was diagnosed with swollen lymph nodes. Despite completing a course of medication, the pain persisted, and during one of the intense challenges, she had to be rushed to the hospital, where an MRI scan revealed an injury.
Speaking candidly about her ordeal, Dipika shared, “There’s no immediate treatment or course of action—recovery is a slow process. I have to consciously ensure that I don’t make any rigorous movements.” She admitted she was torn about whether to continue in the competition but, despite pushing herself, ultimately realised it was unfair to the other contestants when she had to miss a day of shooting due to her condition.
The wedding-themed episode, which featured special guests Hina Khan and Rocky Jaiswal, marked her final appearance on the show.
Grateful for the unwavering support from the production team, Dipika praised them for prioritising her well-being over the show’s schedule. “The moment I was in pain, they were more concerned about my health than the shoot. They always encouraged me to rest,” she said.
Reflecting on her journey, she expressed both gratitude and disappointment, saying, “I have learnt so much, and it was an incredibly fun experience. Cooking is something I love, and I will truly miss the show. But sometimes, things are beyond our control. I don’t even know how the injury happened, but maybe my time on Celebrity MasterChef was meant to be this short. My focus now is to recover and hopefully return with something new soon.”
Dipika’s departure is undoubtedly a significant loss to the show, as she was widely seen as a strong contender for the title. Fans will certainly miss her presence, but they continue to rally behind her, hoping to see her back on screen soon.
