MUMBAI: Renowned television actor Karan Patel, best known for his iconic portrayal in the hit series Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, recently revealed a rather sobering side of his journey during a candid podcast appearance.
Despite once being one of television's most sought-after stars, Patel shared that he hasn't received a single offer for a daily soap in over six years. His revelation has sparked conversation about the changing face of the Indian entertainment industry.
“I haven’t gotten a single daily soap offer in the past six years,” Patel admitted during the podcast. “Today, nearly 150 to 200 new actors enter the scene every day. They’re willing to work for just 10 per cent of what we would charge.”

The actor, who was last seen in the film Darranchhoo, also touched on the dramatic shift in focus from traditional television to OTT platforms. According to him, much of the industry's budget and attention is now being diverted towards web content, often at the cost of quality and storytelling.
“There’s been a clear transition,” he noted. “OTT is where the money is going, and somewhere along the line, quality has taken a backseat.”
Patel’s remarks highlight the challenges faced by established actors in an industry that’s constantly evolving and favouring fresh faces and new trends. His loyal fanbase, however, remains hopeful to see him grace the screen once more.
With his talent and charisma, there’s no doubt that the audience continues to miss Karan Patel—and eagerly awaits his return.
