Noted cinematographer V K Murthy who gained recognition for his classic cinematography work in Guru Dutt’s ‘Pyaasa’ and ‘Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam’ passed away today. He was 91. It is believed that Murthy passed away due to age-related illness.
The octogenarian was the first technician of Bollywood to be honoured with Dada Saheb Phalke award in 2008.
Murthy shot to fame after giving stunning visuals to Guru Dutt's movies. His picturization of the famous Chaudavin ka Chand is etched in golden words in the annals of cinematic history.
In a career that spanned over four decades, Murthy's work in classics like Kagaz Ke Phool and Sahib, Bibi aur Ghulam, won him Filmfare awards and also the coveted International Indian Film Academy Lifetime Achievement Award at Amsterdam in 2005.
Murthy is survived by his daughter Chaya Murthy.
