MUMBAI: Sakshi Malik is one of the most popular Indian freestyle wrestlers. Beginning her journey as a wrestler at a young age, she went on to become the very first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

She was born on 3 September 1992 in Mokhra village of Haryana's Rohtak district.
She picked up the sport at the young age of 12.
It was none other than her grandfather Badlu Ram, who was also a wrestler, who motivated her to take up wrestling.
She is a railway employee.
She tied the knot with Indian wrestler Satyawart Kadian on April 2, 2017 in Rohtak.

Sakshi Malik won the bronze medal in the 58 kg category at the 2016 Summer Olympics. This accomplishment made her become the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics. Previously, she won the silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and the bronze medal at the 2015 Asian Wrestling Championships in Doha.
She is the recipient of awards such as Padma Shri and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna.
