The record for the most expensive goat in Mumbai, India is Rs 400,000 during this year’s Eid-Ul-Adha or Bakri Eid. Common people have been paying anywhere between Rs 4,000 to Rs 40,000 for a goat for qurbani during the holy Islamic festival, if newspaper reports are to be believed.
Well, the prize for the most expensive goat purchase this year in television land is likely to go to comedian and sensitive actor Ali Asgar. Sources indicate that Ali, who is a devout Muslim, coughed up Rs 45,000 for two goats this year, which makes it Rs 22,500 each.
He was not willing to confirm the price that he paid, when we called him up. Instead he said: "The essence and value of qurbani is not a goat or a lamb but it is the belief in God and Allah and the ability to sacrifice."
He elaborated that the meaning of Bakri Eid is that we belong to God; God is responsible for all of us, and we should always be patient. "The idea is that you should help everyone and learn sharing. That’s why when we cut a goat; we divide it into three parts. One for our own families, the second for relatives, and the third for the poor,” he said.
Ameen!!!
