Amol "Veer Shivaji" Kolhe wants to join politics in the future

Dr Amol Kolhe
Young and vibrant Paras Arora did a commendable job as the young Shivaji in Colors’ historical saga Veer Shivaji. Now post leap, everyone wondered who would step in to take the onus of performing the role of the grown up Shivaji. But now fans can rest easy as the production house (Contiloe Films) has put faith on veteran and super talented actor, Dr. Amol Kolhe. And Kolhe will be comfortable to play the character as earlier he has portrayed Shivaji in Nitin Chandrakant Desai’s Raja Shivchatrapati. However, Veer Shivaji marks the actor’s entry in the world of Hindi television. “When I played Shivaji on Star Pravah I knew that I was catering to Marathi audience who knew about this man. But when it comes to a Hindi GEC the audience is vast. Hence the challenge and responsibility increases,” says Amol. Amol had taken up a Marathi TV show Olakh soon after Raja Shivchatrapati got over to move out of the Shivaji image, so why did he sign Veer Shivaji? “I am very close to the character and it also a calculated move. Shivaji Maharaj is a matter of pride for every Maharastrian or rather I must say, every Indian. So playing Shivaji means a lot to me but at the same time I had never worked on a Hindi GEC hence this was an opportunity to explore and be a part of a show on national TV,” he adds. Furthermore, he has also been a part of a Marathi film titled On Duty 24 Taas (directed by Kedar Shinde) and has shot for four other Marathi movies which will soon hit the silver screen. In Ranbhumi he plays a mysterious character, he will be seen in a double role in Sahet, he plays a political leader in Awaz Kunacha and a funny man in Lagin Ghai. He is no doubt a versatile actor, but also a man of letters who believes in the importance of education. “There are so many who in the desire to become a star quit education and end up being nothing in life, which is sad. So when my parents told me to finish studies and then give a shot at acting, I readily agreed. I hold a degree in MBBS and even practiced it for three and a half years. Now I am an actor yet I treat anyone who falls ill while shooting at a set. I also give medical assistance to my friends, family and loved ones,” he goes on to say. At the personal front, he stays with his parents, elder brother and his lovely wife and daughter. “The first thing I do after getting back home is play with my daughter, Aatya and tell her stories about Shivaji Maharaj. My house has many portraits of the great man. Moreover, my wife Dr. Ashwini is a fabulous lady. We had met in college while studying medicine and that’s where we fell in love. She took up medicine while I opted for acting and currently, she works at KEM Hospital as an assistant professor.” Finally, he shares his future plans with his fans, “I love my family, exercising, writing poetries and politics. And in the future, I intend to join politics.”
