MUMBAI: Soni Razdan, the mother of actor Alia Bhatt told online users last week about a money extortion incident. TV star Arjun Bijlani recently talked about how earlier this month, he became a victim of a cyber scam. When Arjun was in the gym in the second week of May, he discovered that his credit card had been hacked.
He had received bank messages indicating that successive withdrawals ranging from Rs 3000 to Rs 5,000 had been made. Despite informing bank officials, the actor lost Rs 40,000 in that incident.
Arjun recently had a detailed conversation regarding this scam with the popular news portal. The host of India's Got Talent claimed that the experience had opened his eyes. Speaking of the same, Arjun stated, “My credit card was with me only and I was working out in the gym. During a quick break, I checked my phone and there were several messages of my credit card getting swiped after every minute and there were continuous transactions. My wife also has a supplementary card, so I asked her and that card was also with her. So, it was obvious that the details were leaked, and we are clueless as to how it happened.”
Arjun Bijlani also spoke about how the damage could have been bigger if he had not been vigilant. “This incident was like an eye-opener. A lot of people don’t check all the messages from banks, but I realised how important it is to read those texts. Luckily, I saw it and there were only seven to eight transactions that had happened till that point in time. Each transaction was for about three to five thousand, and in total the card was used for ₹40K. My credit card has a limit of 10-12 lacs, so this situation could have gone much worse if I hadn’t checked my phone.”
On May 9, Arjun shared this incident on X (formerly known as Twitter). He wrote, “Credit card hacked and fraudulent transactions before it got blocked… I’m sure the cyber crime cell will catch the perpetrators!! Be careful guys !!”
The publication was also informed by Arjun Bijlani that he never received an OTP for the transactions. “There is a procedure that you get an OTP before any credit card transaction is done, but that’s what I don’t know. I am still wondering how the transactions were going through successfully without me providing a single OTP. Going digital is great but this is very scary; safety is equally important. There’s so much online fraud happening today even when you feel things are safe with an OTP,” he said.
Arjun's most recent professional appearance was in a cameo movie Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, directed by Karan Johar. He is currently seen hosting Dance Deewane.
