MUMBAI: Popular television actress VJ Chithra, fondly called as Chithu, died by suicide in the wee hours of December 9. She was 28 years old. She was found hanging at her hotel room in Chennai.
According to reports Chithra had completed the shooting of Tamil serial Pandian Stores yesterday and returned to her hotel room at around 2.30 am. Her mortal remains have been kept at Kilpauk Medical College for post-mortem.
VJ Chithu's passing away has come across as a huge shock to her colleagues and fans. After the news broke, her fans took to social media to express their shock. Police officials at Nazrathpettai station have been informed and are now investigating the case.
According to a report by Indiaglitz, she has been staying with her fiance Hemanth at a private hotel in Chennai. The couple got engaged a few months ago and she often took to Instagram to share pictures of the two.
After returning to her hotel room at 2.30 am on December 9, she told Hemanth that she would refresh and be back. However, she did not return for a long time. Her fiance Hemanth found that her room was locked from the inside and hence sought the help of the hotel staff for a duplicate key.

Hemanth and the hotel staff found Chithra hanging from the ceiling fan. Later, a hotel staff alerted Nazrathpettai police were and the formalities were carried out.
VJ Chithra played the character Mullai in the popular television serial Pandian Stories, which is being aired on Vijay TV. It was her claim to fame and her popularity earned her a lot of commercials on television. Chithra's death is a huge shock to the television industry.
Soon, her fans took to Twitter to pay her last respects to Chithra.
She was supposed to tie the knot with businessman Hemanth in the next few months.
