"I'm not focusing on winning Sa re ga ma pa" Mouli Dave

You can take a man out of India but can't take India out of a man. So goes the popular saying. While it may not hold true for most NRIs, USA's Mouli Dave certainly wears India on her sleeves. However, this American desi nearly booked her flight for USA after last Friday's insipid performance on Zee's Sa re ga ma pa Challenge 2007. But luck had something else in store for her. Fortunately, she came into her own on Saturday. May be the presence of Bollywood heartthrob Salmaan proved to be an inspiration.

By singing the peppy track 'No entry', Mouli stormed back into the title race. "Prior to Saturday's episode, I thought my journey on Sa re.. is over. However, I was determined to give it a best shot, and that's precisely what I did" says a relieved Mouli. Despite yet another rocking performance, Mouli isn't overtly concerned on winning the pratham yudh. "I'm here to improve my singing. I'm not focusing on winning the title," quips Mouli. While, she may not be the most talented singer on Sa re.., Mouli is bagging heaps of viewer's vote. "As an American India, I feared people may not vote for me. However, I'm far ahead of my other female contestants" said Mouli. Guru Bappi Lahiri calls her the Indian Shakira. If you look great, sing well and are a professional dancer, you're entitled to be clubbed alongside the Columbian diva."Being hailed as Indian Shakira puts added pressure on me. But, I know have the ability, so, I have to perform to my potential" enunciates Mouli. Expectedly, the 19-year-old singing sensation is loaded with offers from both Bollywood and Tellywood. Recently, Mouli performed in Zee's Parivaar. However, Mouli has no intentions of acting in soaps but wants to shine on the big screen. Viewers are often shocked when they hear Mouli as they wonder how an American Indian girl can sing so well in Hindi. Well, out Gujju girl hasn't spent the best part of her life in the USA. Apparently, her family moved to US when she was eight years old. However, few years later, Mouli came back to her birth place (Ahmedabad) to resume her studies and pursue her passion. "People express surprise over the manner in which I sing, but I'd like to admit that I'm concentrating on improving my vocabulary," says a candid Mouli. Finally, our American desi rubbishes all stories of her alleged link up with Sa re.. host Aditya Narayan. " We are just good friends. It's common for people to speculate when they see two good-looking people together," chides Mouli. Well, we totally agree with her.
