On Indian Idol 15, Shreya Ghoshal denies Vishal Dadlani’s constant request for her to sing

MUMBAI: The much-loved singing reality show, Indian Idol Season 15, on Sony Entertainment Television will deliver a nostalgic and entertaining weekend with its ‘90s Special’ Episode in the presence of the evergreen Sanjeeta Bijlani. Honouring the theme, the judges – Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, Badshah, and the contestants, will pay tribute to the iconic music of the 90s.

The episode features some captivating duet performances, but Mayuri and Chaitanya’s performance of the song "Aisi Deewangi Dekhi Nahi Kahi" from the movie "Deewana" won everyone's heart. An impressed Shreya Ghoshal praised the contestants and commented, “Chaitanya, you gave all of us a surprise. It was a fantastic performance. A very different voice was heard, and a different colour was seen. Your voice felt like Udit Ji's."

However, for Mayuri, Shreya offered advice, saying, “We are all fans of Alka Ji, and in this song, I was missing her voice. Mayuri, your voice is very sweet. However, this song was above your range. You sound lovely in the middle range, but in the top range, your voice shuts down. You need to work on this for these kinds of songs."

After Shreya's comments, Host Aditya Narayan, and Vishal Dadlani, repeatedly requested Shreya Ghoshal to sing ‘Aisi Deewangi Dekhi Nahi Kahi’ and demonstrate the high notes for Mayuri. However, Shreya, seemingly a bit weary from the constant requests, declined, stating, “No, I keep singing every week." Vishal Dadlani persisted, saying, “She needs to hear it because your classical training teaches how to sing high notes without straining your voice and that’s the only thing she needs to learn, that’s why I am requesting you to just show that.” Shreya again declined, saying, "I agree with you, Vishal, but I will tell you why I will not sing. It's because even I cannot replicate Alka's vocal texture on those notes." But after constant requests, Shreya gracefully gave in and sang, because she wanted Mayuri to shine.

In a lighter moment, Sangeeta Bijlani recalled a memory of this song and its film, saying, “When the song was released, the poster which featured Shahrukh Khan and Divya Bharti became very famous. When the film was released, Shahrukh got to know that the poster was being sold at Linking Road. Gauri, Shahrukh, and I, along with a few of our other friends, went to Linking Road to see what was happening because selling posters was a big deal. Shahrukh couldn't resist and went down from the car to buy the poster. People saw him and got very excited and came to take his autograph. This was a special time in the 90s."

Don’t miss this episode of Indian Idol 15, airing this weekend at 8:30 PM only on Sony Entertainment Television.
