MUMBAI: Zee TV has been a front-runner in revolutionising television content over the past three decades and it is all set to change the face of music reality shows once again with its latest non-fiction property, the Indian Pro Music League (IPML). In what will be a clutter-breaking format innovation, Zee TV is all set to present audiences with the world’s first ever music league in early 2021. While the world of sports has seen several league competitions, this unique music league will have six teams representing different regions of India, battling it out against each other in a musical championship. Each of these six teams supported by leading Bollywood and sports celebrities will have top playback singers as their captains, one reality show star and one fresh voice. The likes of Mika Singh, Kailash Kher, Sajid Khan, Shaan, Ankit Tiwari, Javed Ali, Asees Kaur, Bhoomi Trivedi, Akriti Kakar, Payal Dev, Neha Bhasin, Shilpa Rao have been signed on to captain the 6 zonal teams.
For such a mammoth music reality show, the channel recently launched a vibrant anthem that showcased each of its 12 team captains coming together for the very first time. Composed by Sajid - Wajid, this musical masterpiece is amongst the last few compositions of the duo before Wajid Khan’s tragic demise. In fact, Wajid was one of the first people on board for the show and Indian Pro Music League was his dream as per Sajid Khan. He was so passionate about it that the late musician worked on it ever since the idea was born. After Wajid passing away, Sajid is fulfilling and living his brother’s dream.
As the captain of Delhi Dhurrandhars and the composer of the Indian Pro Music League anthem, Sajid Khan, revealed, “I have been associated with this show since its start, in fact, the owners and Wajid had dreamt about this show together and they were all working towards it. He had told me that I needed to be a part of the show and hence, I came on board for it. So, the Indian Pro Music League was Wajid’s dream and here I am putting my 500 percent into it.”
Sajid further revealed how even after Wajid was hospitalised, he was very eager to start working on the show and expressed, “I remember, when Wajid was in the hospital, I used to go and surprise him in the morning and he would be very happy. We used to eat our breakfast together and even then, he used to speak about the Indian Pro Music League and tell me to be there for the owners. He was like, ‘I’ll be fine soon and join you, but till then, you be there.’ I was amazed by his comments and I had told him that he’s in the hospital and he should focus on his recovery and not think about all this. But he was so passionate about this show, so now I am trying to make it as big as possible and I know the show will be grand and I can’t wait for the viewers to see it.”
The recently launched Indian Pro Music League anthem is also Wajid’s swansong and the vibrant track presents the different regional flavours of the six zonal teams from the show - Mumbai Warriors, Delhi Dhurandhars, UP Dabbangs, Punjab Lions, Bengal Tigers and Gujarat Rockers. Unveiled at the Zee Rishtey Awards 2020 recently, the anthem has been getting rave reviews from the audience. And while Sajid fulfils Wajid’s dream, the teams are getting ready for the biggest musical battle. Which team will emerge as the strongest contender? And which team will spring up a surprise?
