If you want someone to excel playing a cop on television, then the first name that will come to mind is that of dashing and handsome Vikas Kumar.
From essaying the senior inspector Umesh Jagdale in Powder to portraying to the ‘T’ the senior officer with a difference (Damodar Deshmukh) in Khotey Sikkey, Vikas Kumar has now bagged his third role as Senior Inspector in Sony Entertainment Television’s long running show, CID (Fireworks Productions). Vikas will essay the role of Senior Inspector Rajat, an officer in the same cadre as Daya (Daya Shetty) and Abhijeet (Aditya Srivastava).
Talking about his fascination to playing a cop, Vikas says, “To tell you frankly, I contemplated a lot before taking up the role in CID. In fact, I was put to thought even when I was offered the role of Damodar Deshmukh, post Powder. But I took up CID as it is the most popular show.”
Ask him about the similarities in the roles, and he says, “There cannot be a better etched role for a cop than Damodar Deshmukh. The man had various layers in him; he had a very unique camaraderie going with the five Khotey Sikkeys, and the manner in which he investigated cases was different. In CID, I play the more straight forward inspector.”
Vikas Kumar goes on, “I got offered many roles on TV and on the big screen, and all of them till now have been the role of a cop. I don’t know whether I should attribute this to the narrow mindedness of the people who cast, or to the belief they have in me. Having said this, I think it is in my personality and people do see me as a good actor who is capable enough of essaying a tough cop.”
Whatever be it, fans of the actor will be thrilled to see him portray a cop on television yet again…
