MUMBAI: He might have not done many shows that have set milestones, but that is because of his unconventional acting and looks, which are international in ways more than one.
Last seen in Ek Deewana Tha, Namik Paul was touted to enter Star Plus' show Kasautii Zindagii Kay as Mr. Bajaj. But he is now playing the lead in Kavach, and in a press conference of the show, we got an opportunity to get candid with Namik and know more about his character, the controversy around his entry, and his excitement to be a part of this season of Kavach!
Describing his character, Namik said, 'I play the role of Angad Jindal, a well-to-do businessman belonging to a Punjabi family and a successful director of 5 companies. He is madly in love with a girl named Sandhya and wants to get married to her in a respectful way. Sandhya, meanwhile, is a grounded person who is mindful of the fact that people don’t judge her of trying to use Angad as a stepping stone in her career as he is also her boss.'
Since we have seen the cast of Naagin and Kasautii Zindagii Kay bond extremely well on their respective sets, we quizzed Namik about his bonding on the sets of Kavach. He expressed, 'Well, I have shot with Deepika (Singh) for around 12 days so far, and I must say she is very focused on her work. Her energy is infectious, and I am working with a good cast. I have not shot with Vin, but we have gelled well in our interactions so far.'
Since there was a lot of speculation about Namik being roped in for Kasautii Zindagii Kay, we asked him for some clarity on the same. He shared, 'I signed a contract for Kasautii Zindagii Kay. They said very clearly that this is an arc. It is an on-going show, and if TRPs don’t come, it won’t work for us, and that’s how most TV serials are. You can’t keep making whatever you want! Additionally, Parth (Samthaan) and Erica’s (Fernandes) chemistry is a big hit, so it would be an uphill task to take the performance to that level immediately. I see it as...it could have been great or could have been a disaster. Another thing is that I was signed on to play the character of Vikrant and not Mr. Bajaj.'
'I am now on board for Kavach, but if I would have had an option, I would definitely loved to play a lead role than a character role. Additionally, this is a supernatural show and is completely different from what I have done in the past so I am excited about it,' he added.
Good luck, Namik!
