Saajha Sindoor

MUMBAI : Television has been an inseparable part of Indian households for decades, and so has Sangita Ghosh, known for her iconic performances over the years, Sangita is currently winning hearts as Saroj in Sun Neo's show Saajha Sindoor. With her timeless grace and unmatched talent, she embodies the essence of a seasoned artist who has seen the industry evolve right before her eyes.

On the occasion of World Television Day, Sangita Ghosh shared her thoughts, saying, “Television has always been a powerful medium of storytelling, connecting us with emotions, cultures, and diverse narratives. I feel Over the years there has been a big change in the writing of TV shows. Personally, I liked the earlier writing more. I think it was more progressive back then. Today, drama often equates to regression. It’s as if ‘drama’ just means creating conflict for the sake of it, and the subjects feel much shallower than before.”

Acknowledging her role in this evolving landscape, Sangita said, “I admit I’ve been part of such shows too. Even in the roles which I play in my current Sun Neo’s show Saajha Sindoor, there are things I don’t personally agree with. But that's my character, and I have to perform with full commitment and conviction. That’s the daily challenge I face.

Beyond the storytelling, Sangita also highlighted the growing focus on appearances and larger production units, adding, “Earlier, the teams were smaller, and there was more clarity in work. Now, with larger teams and channel involvement in creative decisions, sometimes it feels good, but other times it limits creative freedom. There’s also so much attention given to how things look—costumes, jewelry, hairstyles. Of course, it feels nice when you look good on screen, but sometimes it feels like appearance is prioritized over the essence of storytelling.”

Sangita Ghosh plays the role of Saroj, the stepmother of Gagan (played by Sahil Uppal), in Saajha Sindoor. The show revolves around Phooli (Stuti Goyal), a young woman who faces the devastating reality of becoming an unmarried widow when her groom passes away on their wedding day. Saajha Sindoor explores Phooli's journey through her struggles and the ripple effects on those around her. Airing Monday to Saturday at 8:00 PM on Sun Neo, the show features a stellar cast, including Sangita Ghosh, Sahil Uppal, and Neelu Vaghela.
