MUMBAI: COLORS Gujarati's latest offering United State of Gujarat is an emotional family drama that blends tradition and modernity seamlessly. The show follows the journey of Yamuna (Ami Trivedi), a woman estranged from her family due to her marriage, and her daughter Kay (Sana Amin Sheikh), who returns to India to reunite the family. Amidst this story, veteran actress Nimisha Vakhariya steps in as Jasumati, Keshav’s (Raj Anadkat) stepmother, in a greyshade role.
Jasumati is a strong, calculating woman who harbors disdain not only for her stepson Keshav but also for her paralyzed husband. With the family business entirely under her control, she manipulates situations to her benefit, taking advantage of people and their circumstances. Jasumati’s sharp mind and ruthless nature make her one of the central antagonists in the show, and her complex character adds layers of tension to the unfolding family dynamics.
Nimisha Vakhariya shared her enthusiasm for the role of Jasumati, stating, "I’m portraying Keshav's stepmother, a strong-willed character with intricate shades of grey. I've played many complex roles in the past, and they've consistently resonated with audiences. This marks my first significant role in a Gujarati serial, although I did have a notable part as a child back in 1987. What distinguishes this character is her use of a typical Dwarka dialect, which presents an exciting challenge for me. I’m truly enjoying the process, particularly collaborating with familiar faces like Ragini Aunty, with whom I’ve worked since my early days in the industry. In the show, my character harbors a deep disdain for Keshav and her paralyzed husband, viewing them as burdens. She is a formidable presence, taking control of the family business and shrewdly acquiring land at low prices to sell at a profit. It’s a multi-dimensional, ruthless role, and I’m thoroughly enjoying every aspect of it."
