MUMBAI: Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is one of the longest running TV shows of India. There’s more to it, it’s not just one of the longest running but also one of the most loved shows on Hindi TV. The show has been running strongly for over 14 years.
One of the strongest and pivotal character was that of Ami Trivedi who played the character of Manjari Birla. It was a long standing role and she earned great recognition from it.
Well, shows like Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kumkum and many others left a lasting effect over the audience. One thing to note about it is that those old shows scored really high TRPs touching double digits like 23 and 24 but even the top 3 or top 5 shows in todays date manage to score single digit TRPs. This surely brings in a question that if the audience is becoming bigger, how are TRPs falling.
In an exclusive conversation with Tellychakkar, Ami Trivedi was asked about it and she had a pretty sensible answer to it.
Ami Trivedi said, “Obviously it’s due to the onset of social media and OTT platforms. There’s so much content.”
She also added that all of the shows have now got on the OTT platforms. She continued that even YRRKH is on OTT platform so people who cannot watch it on TV, can watch it on OTT, this way the audience gets divided as it becomes more convenient for them. She pointed that if she wants to watch a show, why should she wait till 8pm if she can get to watch it at 6am?
She added, “When I step out, I get response from people that they are watching the show, they recognize me from the show but it is just that everything is so much divided now.”
