MUMBAI: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi has been docked 50 per cent of his match fee following a second breach of the IPL Code of Conduct during his side’s tense 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians on Friday. Meanwhile, LSG captain Rishabh Pant has also been fined ₹12 lakh for a slow over rate during the same fixture.
Rathi’s latest offence came after he repeated a now-notorious “notebook” celebration—first seen earlier this week against Punjab Kings—following the dismissal of Mumbai's Naman Dhir. The flamboyant gesture has earned him two demerit points, adding to the one he had already accumulated in the previous match.
“This was his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season,” read an official IPL statement. “In total, he now has three demerit points. For Level 1 breaches, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”

Article 2.5 pertains to player behaviour and prohibits the use of language, gestures or actions that may incite an aggressive reaction from the opposition. However, it does clarify that players are still free to celebrate dismissals—provided the conduct remains within acceptable limits.
Pant, on the other hand, was penalised for his side’s first over-rate violation of the season under Article 2.22. As a result, LSG were forced to field one fewer player outside the inner circle during the final over of Mumbai’s chase.
Despite that handicap, LSG held their nerve, successfully defending 22 runs in the last over to claim their second win of the campaign. The spirited display came as a timely response after a patchy start to their IPL 2025 season.
