MUMBAI: The IPL 2025 season is facing a major crisis after the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was abruptly suspended on May 8 due to a security scare and a sudden blackout at Dharamsala’s HPCA Stadium. The game was halted after 10.1 overs, with PBKS in a strong position at 122 for 1.
The disruption was reportedly triggered by a high-level security alert linked to tensions near the Indo-Pak border. Aerial threats led to a power outage and prompted authorities to evacuate spectators and relocate players for safety. In response, the BCCI convened an emergency meeting to evaluate the risks and discuss the immediate future of the tournament.
Although there has been no official decision yet, sources indicate the board is considering either a temporary halt or full postponement of the IPL, given the rising security challenges across the country.

All eyes are now on the next scheduled fixture between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), set for May 9 at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. While Lucknow is not in a high-risk zone, the broader security situation has raised concerns, and precautions have been heightened.
BCCI chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed the match is still set to go ahead, stating, “Yes, it (LSG vs RCB) is on as of now, but obviously it is an evolving situation and any decision will be taken keeping the best interest of all stakeholders in mind.”
With both teams in a tight playoff race, the outcome of this match is significant. However, national security and the safety of everyone involved now take precedence. The fate of the IPL 2025 season could hinge on developments over the coming days, with the league’s continuity hanging in the balance.
