MUMBAI: Sanju Samson endured a disappointing outing on Wednesday as Rajasthan Royals faced their third loss of the IPL 2025 season, falling to Gujarat Titans by a significant 58-run margin at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Despite winning the toss and choosing to bowl, Rajasthan failed to contain the Titans, who posted a daunting 217/6 in their 20 overs. Chasing the stiff target, the Royals faltered and were bowled out for the first time since IPL 2023.

To add to his woes, Samson was fined ₹24 lakh by the BCCI for his team's slow over-rate during Gujarat's innings. This marked Rajasthan’s second offence under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which governs over-rate violations. The team had previously breached the same regulation in their match against Chennai Super Kings, where Riyan Parag had led in Samson’s absence and was fined ₹12 lakh.
According to the IPL’s official release, all other players in the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will face penalties of either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower.
Although Samson contributed a fighting 40 with the bat, it wasn’t enough to turn the tide, as the Titans rode on Sai Sudharsan’s impressive 82 to seal their fourth straight victory and climb to the top of the table.
