Indian television thrives on the replacement funda because TRPs determine whether an actor is doing well or not. If he or she is not performing well or has to leave the show due to some unforeseen circumstances, another actor takes up his/her place to try to boost the show. It works sometimes, while it falls flat most times. Let's take a look at all the replacements of 2014...
Farah Khan replaced Salman Khan in Bigg Boss
The feisty choreographer-turned-actor replaced Salman Khan on Colors' popular show Bigg Boss. While we are pretty certain that she can't live up to the expectations of Khan fans, she has been doing a fine job so far. Let's wait and watch how the show does in the coming weeks.
Esha Deol/ Vijender Singh/ Karan Kundra replaced Raghu-Rajiv in Roadies
A bunch of actors replaced TV's baddies Raghu-Rajiv on MTV's Roadies. Now, let’s see if Esha Deol, Vijender Singh and Karan Kundra can match up to the spontaneity of the cool brothers.
Raqesh Vashisht/ Karanvir Bohra replaced Karan Singh Grover in Qubool Hai
Karan Singh Grover may have found fame as Bipasha's boy toy in the upcoming horror flick Alone, but his small screen assignments suffered big time due to his exit. Raqesh and Karanvir did a good job as the lead in this coming-of-age story. But the show definitely lacks Grover's sex appeal and charm.
Aditi Sajwan replaced Shubhangi Atre in Chidiya Ghar
Shubhangi's role was one of the most popular on the comedy show, which was taken over by the interesting Aditi Sajwain. She is certainly bringing her own flavour of fun to the show, don't you agree?
Manish Paul replaced Drashti Dhami in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa
When Drashti Dhami came aboard the dance reality show, expectations were high. But her abrupt exit from the show made everybody sit up and take notice. She was replaced by funny man Manish Paul, who made the show popular, entertaining and supremely funny!
Aasiya Kazi/ Sargun Mehta replaced Sriti Jha in Balika Vadhu
Balika Vadhu is one of the longest running shows on TV right now. And the number of replacements and leaps the show has had are also numerous. But the recent exit of Sriti Jha has had the audiences going into shock because she was one of their favourites for sure. Kazi and Mehta have not been able to fill into her rather able shoes. Sigh.
Asha Negi replaced Rachana Parulkar in Ek Muthi Asmaan
Parulkar is being sorely missed because her dramatic dialogue delivery and nuanced acting was a hit with us. But we aren't complaining much as Negi is doing a damn good job on the popular show.
Karan Goddwani replaced Gautam Gulati in Diya Aur Baati Hum
When Gautam Gulati entered the controversial reality show Bigg Boss, he had no choice but to exit Diya Aur Baati Hum. The chiseled actor paved way for Karan Goddwani who has done a good job of the role offered to him.
Leena Jumani replaced Madhurima Tuli in Kumkum Bhagya
The show has had a number of replacements. One of the most prominent one being Tuli being replaced by Leena Jumani. We have no opinion on either of the actresses. Do you?
Shafaq Naaz replaced Debina Bonerjee in Chidiya Ghar
Debina had her own brand of drama and dance moves on SAB TV's popular show Chidiya Ghar. Shafaq Naaz is doing a decent job, but we are definitely missing the chirpy Bonerjee babe.
Gunjan Utreja replaced Vivian Dsena in Madhubala
Dsena was one of the most sought after actors on the Indian television, thanks to his dashing looks and lopsided smile. But his fame was pretty short-lived when he exited the popular prime time show. Utreja tried to do a decent job, but audiences couldn't shake off the Dsena hangover, and he later returned to the show. Though their character names and sketches were different, this was the most talked about replacement of 2014.
Neeraj Malviya replaced Kunal Verma in Hum Hain Na
The show did not pick up as much as the makers wanted it to, but the replacement of the key character did boost the TRPs for a while. Malaviya is putting his hundred percent to make the comedy show a hit. Let's hope for the best!
Swati Negi replaced Snehal Pandey in O Gujariya
The show started off with a lot of promise, but ended on a bitter note, as reported, due to the tension between the channel and the production company. As one of the leads of the show, Swati did a better job than Snehal!
Rukhsar Rehman replaced Eva Grover in Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya
Eva was rather loved on the show, so her sudden exit caused quite a stir in the industry circles. She was replaced by Rehman who's spirited acting and charming screen presence more than made up for it.
Lavin Gothi replaced Yuvraj Thakur in Bade Acche Lagte Hai
Even though the popular show has come to a close now, it was one of the most watched soap on the Indian television during its peak. Thanks to the acting chops of its actors. Perhaps that's why Thakur was shown the door and replaced by the much more expressive Gothi. Well, we would never know the real reason, would we?
Karanvir Bohra replaced Abhay Doel in Gumrah
We thought Abhay Deol was rather cute on the real life-inspired show. Probably that's what became his undoing because the show required an anchor with the sterner face and attitude. Enter Bohra, who has been doing a fabulous job on the show.
Vibhav Roy replaced Siddharth Arora in Doli Armaanon Ki
Sid was truly loved on the show but he made a sudden exit, which did not go that well with the viewers. He was replaced by Roy who just couldn't bring the TRPs at par with other shows.
