MUMBAI: The supernatural series Adhura started streaming on Amazon Prime Video a few days ago. The series stars Rasika Duggal and Ishwak Singh in the lead roles and it is directed by Gauravv K Chawla and Ananya Banerjee.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Gauravv and spoke to him about the response Adhura has received, if they planned to have a big name for their show, and more…
What response are you getting for Adhura?
It’s quite good till now. We are happy with the response and the messages that we are getting from people on Instagram. Also, what I am enjoying is that people are writing about it and what touched them. Horror and thriller were aspects of the show, but the issue of bullying, societal issues, and friendship was important, and people connecting to that is wonderful.

Watching a horror movie in a theatre is a very different experience. But, when you make a horror OTT series, is that thing in mind that this won’t be seen on a big screen, but we still have to get that perfect horror effect to it?
Our ambition was always cinematic in terms of the presentation. Today, people watch it on phones with earphones also and they have good sound quality. The technical aspect had to be kept in mind, but apart from that creatively I don’t think one should restrict themselves.
While your show has talented actors like Rasika Dugal and Ishwak Singh, did you initially think of getting a big name so it can pull the audiences as nowadays on OTT also a star is required to grab the attention?
I think that here the star is the genre in a certain way and we had to get good actors. If you see our poster, the kid is on it, so we are selling it on that, we are selling it on the genre and that is what is going to pull the audiences. If we had a big star we would have to have him on the poster. So, it was never considered to have a big name in it.
