MUMBAI: In an attempt for a comeback in the streaming business, SonyLIV has announced its own makeover – All new SonyLIV. From Indian premieres of American TV shows to a host of Indian originals, SonyLIV prepares for a return with a plethora of new content.
Comedy series ‘On Becoming A God In Central Florida’, legal drama ‘For Life’, crime drama ‘Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector’, and young adult spy series ‘Alex Rider’ are some of the American TV shows that are slated for Indian premieres through SonyLIV. Many of these licenses have been facilitated by parent Sony.

According to reports, SonyLIV is also eyeing sitcom ‘Seinfield’, crime-dramas ‘The Shield’ and ‘Justified’, comedy-drama ‘Big C’, musical-comedy ‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist’, and horror anthology ‘Into the Dark’ for gradual Indian premieres.
Closer home, SonyLIV has set up an interesting lineup of Indian content. These include ‘Your Honour’, a Ludhiana-set legal crime drama starring Jimmy Sheirgill, Amit Sadh starrer ‘Avrodh: The Siege Within’, based on Uri Surgical Strikes, and Hansal Mehta’s ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’.
Some of the notable names featuring on the list of Indian collaboration are stand-up comedians Vir Das and Kapil Sharma, writer Ajay Monga, and directors Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Nitesh Tiwari, and Rohan Sippy, amongst others.
Reportedly, names of Subhash Kapoor, Vikas Bahl and Vipul Shah’s are also on the list. Considering the three were accused in the #metoo movement and the controversy still remains (although Bahl and Shah were cleared of charges), this inclusion might put the revamped streaming platform in a fix in future.
SonyLIV will continue to air Sony India’s TV content like entertainment (Kaun Banega Crorepati, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah) and sports.
