Across the world, people claimed that 2016, the year that passed, was not quite lucky and with a hope to start something new enthusiastically, many set out to party with the near and dear ones to bring in 2017. So was the scene in Bengaluru too, but unfortunately 2017 started on a ‘dirty’ note for the city.
Yes, we are using the word ‘dirty’ because what happened to few girls in the city was beyond disgusting. It is surprising to read from nation’s popular daily that this same city was once considered to be safe for women. In one of their article in 2014, they said that “While the city beats last year's top 1 safe city — Mumbai — it has gone down from number 2 to number 3 this year.” We aren’t sure what the ranking would be, but we’re certain that the safety level has certainly stooped to extreme low.
We are talking about the abominable mass molestation incident which took place on 31st night. Adding to the antipathy is the video of a girl getting molested in one of Bangalore alleys, which has gone viral. The video will boil your blood and question the establishment with vengeance.
Many celebs from the television and film fraternity expressed their views. Adding to the anger, Akshay Kumar recently raised his concern about the incident on his Facebook page. The actor, who recently returned from Capetown, felt ashamed of being a part of the community. His words were certainly encouraging, supporting which asked women to get stronger. And, for the men, he was appalled with their mentality.
At this moment, we could relate to popular Bollywood release Pink. Like the movbie, time and again, shows like Satyamev Jayate, Crime Patrol, Savdhaan India, among others, have put efforts to create awareness on women safety, but the small, sickening society that resides amongst us doesn’t seem to understand.
In our open ‘Pink’ letter to the society, Tellychakkar.com had expressed our views about the shrewd, narrow minded men and women in the society who do not act. And, our opinion has only grown stronger. Like we mentioned, all we need to do is take a step towards making a difference.
Let us all act, react and introspect.
