There is no denying the Shahid Kapoor's Haider is not exactly the run-of-the mill Bollywood masala entertainer. An adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet, Haider as its trailer shows looks to be intense, high on emotions and mesmerising performances. Devoid of the usual Bollywood cliches there is no doubt about the fact that Haider is different in its genre. While high critical acclaim has always flowed in large measure for Vishal Bhardwaj's films, the box-office sizzle has always eluded him.
Ask Shahid on whether Haider would cater to the needs of larger or niche audience, the actor says, "It's difficult to say what films will work at what levels. In the last few years, I have had this discussion with many other industry people and there is a general opinion that things are unpredictable and audience have a mind of their own."
Elaborating on how unpredictable showbiz is, Shahid says, "No one knows how many people will like a film. It is determined by a lot of factors. So I can't say whether Haider will connect with small, large or medium audience. It's difficult for me to answer that question. Haider is a film made from the heart and if people get touched after seeing this film, it will reach out to a lot of people."
Haider is set to clash at the box-office along with Hrithik's Bang Bang in 2nd October. For Shahid, both movies belong to different genres and hence aren't in direct competition with each other.
