MUMBAI : Recently, Kangana Ranaut released the teaser for her next movie, Emergency. The movie will be out in just two weeks. But now, it's the subject of debate. The Akhal Takht and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) are requesting that Ranaut's film be immediately banned. They assert that the movie is attempting to "character assassinate" Sikhs and fabricate a false narrative about them.

India Today reports that at a press conference on Wednesday, SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami expressed his disapproval of the Indira Gandhi movie and asked for a formal complaint against Kangana Ranaut. According to Harjinder, Sikhs have historically been negatively portrayed in movies, which has harmed their feelings. He wants Sikh members of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) because he feels it is biased.
Similarly, Kangana Ranaut's previous remarks against Sikhs notwithstanding, the government never took any action against her, according to Gyani Raghbir Singh, the chief (jathedar) of the Akal Takt. Emergency, according to Dhami, "deliberately misrepresented the character of Sikhs as separatists, which is part of a deep conspiracy." According to Singh, Kangana is "deliberately character assassinating" the Sikh community and has "disrespected" them.
Gyani’s statement added, “The community can never forget the anti-Sikh brutality of June 1984, and Ranaut’s film is trying to characterize and assassinate Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale, who has been declared a Qaumi Shaheed (community’s martyr) by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.”
The Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal added that Kangana Ranaut's Emergency ought to be examined by the SGPC prior to its international distribution. Speaking to the media in Amritsar, Badal said she had not seen the movie but claimed the late Parkash Singh Badal's Shiromani Akali Dal had battled valiantly and been arrested during the Emergency time.
The MP added, “History shows Kangana has used derogatory language against Punjabis, especially during the farmers’ protests, which indicates her bias.”
