Trust the irresistible Govinda to whip up a frenzy when on stage. Back in action after a long time, the actor was in his elements at the launch of his debut music album ‘Gori Tere Naina’, yesterday. And guess what? He has not only acted and danced in this album but also lent his voice to the four songs in the album. Surprised?
Well, for the uninitiated, Govinda comes from a musical family. His mother Nirmala Ahuja was a singer and Govinda too had received classical training as a child. But Govinda chose to keep his singing talent strictly under wraps and preferred to entertain his legion of fans with his agile dance moves and innate comic timing, until yesterday. For someone who has been a part of the film industry as an actor for donkey’s years, Govinda’s singing histrionics will surely shock and surprise many. And believe us, we aren’t boasting. The title song ‘Gori Tere Naina’ will surely make you sit back and listen in rapt attention while Govinda hits the high octaves of the song with apparent ease. And not to forget his manly versatile voice that betrays all hints of him being a first timer. We even asked Govinda to hum a few lines and the actor obliged with a smile on his face much to the delight of the audience.
Govinda whose acting career has taken a serious dip over the last few years said that this music album is his way of staying in touch with his fans. “My last film released a long time back and I felt the need to stay connected to my fans. So I asked Shamir (Tandon, music composer) if he could compose a tune for my songs and he agreed. That’s how the entire album happened.”
Gori Tere Naina also stars television actor Puja Banerjee of Mahadev fame. The pretty actress thanked Govinda for giving her a chance to act alongside him and said it was a dream come true for her to shoot a music video along with Govinda and praised him as one of the greatest entertainer, dancer and actor of the industry.
There was one hilarious shot in the music video which made one laugh uncontrollably. A topless Govinda dressed as a Sadhu, can be seen dancing away to glory in a song called titled ‘Party Da Mood.’ When quizzed about it, Govinda said, “I have saluted Ramdevji through that act. The one who teaches me yoga is Ramdev Baba’s disciple and this was my way of paying a tribute to him.”
‘Gori Tere Naina’ has a total of four songs all of which have been penned and sung by Govinda. The album has been released keeping the festive season of Navratri in mind.
