I never expected such a positive response for Grand Masti even in my dreams: Vivek Oberoi

Vivek Oberoi is gung ho of being part of Grand Masti that has been pronounced a hit. This is after a long time that the Krissh 3 actor is part of a hit. Exclaims Vivek, “I never expected such a positive response even in my wildest dreams. We all thought that it (Grand Masti) will do well for it was a good product but did not ever imagine that it would rake in Rs 112 crore. And whenever my director Indra Kumar would always say that it would touch the magical figure of Rs 100 crore, we would just laugh out. Nobody expected that an adult comedy would do so well. The highest this genre had crossed was 54 crore (Delhi Belly). So we thought that that even if we would do extremely well, we might touch at the most Rs 60 crore.” “The reaction of the audience has been phenomenal. Wherever we have gone, people have come up to us to say that they have watched the film and loved it. Security guards at airports/ hotels want pictures along with me. In return I tell them to do their jobs so that I can take my flight during the on-going promotions of Krrish 3,” he adds. When asked if he could be credited with starting a plethora of films with double meaning dialogues, he avers, “This mantle must also go to Indu ji (Indra Kumar) for he had first started the adult genre with Masti way back in 2004 that turned out to become a big hit.” On the other hand, Vivek has not taken critic bashing of Grand Masti too seriously. “We always knew that the critics will not like the film. Before the release we would joke amongst ourselves whether the film will get one or half stars. The critics are doing their job but honestly I don’t really lay too much emphasis on what they write. I say this on my earlier experience. Even after they had praised at least 10 of my films to the hilt, yet no one trooped in to the cinema halls. I am of the feeling that reviews and collections take separate routes. The critics had also panned Chennai Express as well yet it grossed Rs 215 crore. This shows that the masses have liked the film. The same happened to our film,” Vivek observes. Finally, Vivek is hopeful that his upcoming superhero flick Krrish 3, in which he plays a super villain, will also make a very big splash at the ticket window.
