The actress-filmmaker has signed Dinkar Kapoor, who once assisted Abbas-Mustan in Baazigar, to direct her first venture as producer that will be a Bhojpuri film. The film would be a remake of a hit South Indian film titled Matru Devo Bhava which was made in Telugu in 1993. Jayaprada has already bought the rights of the film that will have Bhojpuri actor in the lead. The actor will play Jaya’s alcoholic husband but when he tries to mend his ways, it is too late. Said Tiwari, “I am very excited about doing this film in which I will play a drunkard for the first time.” The Telugu film was itself a remake of the Malayalam hit film Akashadoothu. It is said that K.S. Rama Rao saw the film and bought the remake rights for Telugu. Madhavi reprised the role from Akshadhoodu since she was also a familiar face to Telugu audience. In 2008, the film was remade in Hindi as Tulsi: Matrudevobhava that had Manisha Koirala and Irrfan Khan in the lead roles. Soon after completing the film, Jayaprada will concentrate mainly on Hindi films.
