The inevitable has happened. Grand Masti which was already creating ripples with its bold promos and provocative and suggestive posters has now run into a legal storm. The Punjab and Haryana High Court, through a stay order, stayed the release of the movie in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh after a petition was filed by advocate Dinesh Chadha stating that the movie has used vulgar language and dialogues.
Dinesh Chadha who is the petitioner-advocate in this case has stated in his petition that while watching the trailers of the movie on the internet with his family members, he found the contents of the film against public policy and spirit of the Cinematograph Act 1952.
He further alleged that the movie is replete with nudity, vulgarity, obstinacy and duel meaning dialogues, and it had scenes that degrade and denigrate women. The petitioner further stated that if the movie is released it would give an immoral massage to the young generation and pleaded for directions to be issued to revoke the certification of the movie.
After hearing the petition and the arguments forwarded by the lawyer, the High Court issued a stay order and also issued notices to producer and director of the film as well as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and has asked them to file their responses on the contentions of petitioner on September 20.
We tried getting in touch with lead actors Aftab Shivdasani and Manjari Phadnis to get a reaction on the same. But despite repeated calls and text messages, both remained unavailable.
