MUMBAI: Today marks 25 years of Darr, the iconic psychological thriller from Yash Raj Films. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, and Sunny Deol in central roles, the movie marked SRK’s foray into the negative space, and we are still obsessed with Rahul and how he says K..K..K...Kiran.
The film’s story revolved around Rahul (SRK) who is obsessively in love with his classmate Kiran and stalks her to her doorstep. And what follows is a cycle of distress, heartbreak, and fights, which lead to Rahul's death.
Aditya Chopra in an interview said that Shah Rukh Khan was not the first choice for the movie and Aamir Khan was the choice, but he declined the movie, as he didn’t want to play a negative role. The ace director also said that he and his father were not fond of SRK’s acting and they had just seen some scenes from his movie King Uncle and decided to cast him, as all the other actors had declined the role.
SRK's character Rahul's popularity irked Sunny Deol, as his character Sunil was completely overshadowed. Sunny in a recent interview said that he was not told that SRK’s role was meatier and even alleged that Yash Chopra Chopra hid the fact deliberately from him, so much so that he even refused YRF's offer to launch his son Karan Deol because of his distrust in the production house.
Well, the movie is still remembered by one and all and is considered to be SRK’s best performance.
