MUMBAI: The fingerprint samples of Shariful Islam Shehzad, a Bangladeshi national who was detained for allegedly attacking Saif at his home on January 16, do not match the actor's fingerprints, which is a significant step in the case of Saif Ali Khan's attack, according to a report in News18.

Amid rumors on social media that the wrong person had been arrested, the Mumbai Police suffered a setback when the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) revealed the information and filed negative reports on Shariful's fingerprint samples, according to a report by Mid-Day/News18.
After an extensive 3-day manhunt, which involved almost 40 teams from the Mumbai Police and Crime Branch, Shariful was apprehended from Thane.

According to police, the accused, whose custody was granted an extension by the court until January 29, was not assisting with the investigation and had not disclosed the whereabouts of the weapon used in the crime.
The individual who gave the accused a SIM card, Khukmoni Jahangir Sheikh, is being sought by Mumbai Police. Khukmoni Jahangir Sheikh was the name on the SIM card that the police found on the accused.
Saif Ali Khan told the Mumbai Police in a statement on Friday that the accused attacked his housekeeper and demanded Rs 1 crore, then repeatedly stabbed him when he attempted to step in.
