MUMBAI: Akshay Kumar is one of the bankable stars in the industry. He has given some of the finest performances in films like ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Welcome’, ‘Pad Man’, 'Sooryavanshi', and ‘Special 26’. But Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon's recently released Bachchhan Paandey has failed to impress the audience. It is not doing great at the box office with competitors like Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files and SS Rajamouli's RRR.
Akshay already has his hands full with plenty of projects this year. In 2016, Akshay was quizzed about how he does not bag any awards despite his efforts and he sort ended up breaking down in front of a live audience.
Akshay was promoting the third instalment of his franchise Houseful when he was asked a question about why he doesn’t win any awards despite being one of the most delivering actors in the industry. It is also to be noted that at that time, his film Airlift was working exceptionally well and also stood as the highest grosser of that year.
According to a report, Akshay started tearing up while answering the question and said, "Award… (wiping away his tears with a handkerchief passed on by co-star Riteish Deshmukh) award kabhie nai milta hai" (I never get awards).
He however added, “But, I don’t have a problem. It is okay if I don’t get awards, but I get rewards.”
Speaking about the pre-set decisions around awards, Akshay Kumar jokingly said, "Haan, do baar maine kiya hai. Bina lifafa khole jo saamne baitha hai usko de diya."
Akshay has been working on movies like Ram Setu and Prithviraj, which will hit the theatres this year.
He is geared up for his next release Mission Cinderella co-starring Rakul Preet Singh. The film is expected to ditch theatrical release and stream on Disney+Hotstar in April this year.
A report suggests that the makers have decided to release the upcoming film on a direct to digital premiere considering that the film is not a big-screen spectacle.
Directed by Ranjit M Tiwari, Mission Cinderella is the Hindi remake of the Tamil film Ratsasan. The film will reportedly see Akshay essaying the role of a cop. Produced by Jackky and Vashu Bhagnani, the film also marks Akshay’s second film to take the OTT after Laxmmi.
