Come June 6th, Khiladi Kumar will be back in his action avatar, performing gravity defying stunts in Vipul Shah's Holiday. Directed by A R Murugadoss, Holiday is the remake of Tamil film Thuppaki which had popular South Indian star Vijay playing the lead role. However, Akshay doesn't consider Holiday as a remake of Thuppaki. Ask Akshay if South Indian remakes still have a substantial market in Bollywood, the superstar springs in a surprise by saying that he doesn't consider Holiday as a remake.
Reasons Akshay, “Murugadoss and Vipul had narrated the script to me first in 2010. I loved it then and wanted to do it but due to some time constraints, we couldn't go ahead. So for me, Holiday is not a remake because I had chosen the script first,"
The movie deals with a special form of terrorism unleashed through sleeper cells. Even Akshay got enlightened about their modus operandi after working in the movie. "Even I understood what sleeper cells really are after working in this movie. Terrorists operating through these sleeper cells blend in so well with our society that it is difficult to identify them. There is a head or leader who is connected and controls all the sleeper cells in the country. Sleeper cells played a major role in both 26/11 and America's 9/11," says Akshay.
For someone who has more or less done commercial box-office driven films, Akshay believes Holiday is more serious in its content. "I did Holiday because of its content. But this is a serious thriller and not my kind of fun film."
So is Akshay turning more towards meaningful cinema now? "I have no special plans. Content is the most important thing and I look for subjects which can make a difference," reveals Akshay.
Talking about action and stunts, Akshay feels stuntmen today have started receiving their due. For someone, who has always preferred doing his own stunts, Akshay doesn't bother much about the risks involved as he takes adequate precautions and also being insured acts as a relief measure."I have done some very real action this time. I have not used cables and have done real somersaults."
Quiz him on why he prefers doing his stunts all the time, Akshay says, "I enjoy doing them. No producer has ever forced me to do it," says Akshay
Holiday will also see Akshay teaming up with Sonakshi Sinha with whom he has had a good association. The action star also has a word of praise for Sonakshi. "I have worked with heroines who make the entire unit wait for three or four hours. With Sonakshi that never happens. She is very punctual."
While Akshay has been working with young heroines, he is not averse to working with the heroines with whom he started his career. Says Akshay, "I am open to working with all those heroines with whom I started my career. It all depends on the script. I can't pick and choose actress and say I want to work with so and so."
While every other married actress is planning to stage a comeback, Akshay's glamorous wife Twinkle has no such plans. "I asked her if she wants to get back to acting and she said she wants to be happy," says a winking Akshay.
Well, we are our Khiladi Kumar keeps his wifey might happy.
