MUMBAI: The South beauty Shruti Haasan has said that because she grew up in the limelight, she felt that her family didn't belong only to her. Shruti is the daughter of actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika.
In an interview, she was asked about her relationship with Shantanu Hazarika, and how she seems to be rather 'guarded' about her personal life.
The actress quoted, "I am not hiding anything; that’s not my nature. It is too much effort to keep things a secret and I had decided early on that was what I didn’t need in my life. However, I have also not had too much personal life, because I have grown up in front of people from a very early age. My own family felt like it didn’t belong only to me, so I am instinctively a little guarded about my personal life. I am not complaining but that’s how it has panned out for me,"

She said that social media has come as a boon to her, because now, she gets to control the narrative. She said, "Ever since I was a child, I had a problem with people misunderstanding me. Online, I am me; you can like it or hate it."
Shruti in a recent interview spoke about her youth, and her parents' separation. She quoted, "I was just excited for them (her parents) to live their own lives. I was glad they separated as I do not think two people who are not getting along, should get along for some reason. They continue to be wonderful parents. I am particularly close to my dad. My mum is doing well and is a part of our lives as well. It actually panned out for the best."
