At a time when actor Bhaktiar Irani is contemplating marriage to lady love Tanaaaz Lal, he has been signed on to play Rahul, a fashion designer in UTV's next production on Star One, Arranged Marriage.
Arranged Marriage is a special show, because it brings powerhouse performer couple Rajeshwari Sachdev and Varun Badola together for the first time on screen after Phir Se, the telefilm on SaharaOne, during the filming of which they decided to tie the knot.
Rajeshwari, who plays Sanjana in Arranged Marriage, is a wedding planner and together with Swetta Keswani (Sheena), Bhaktiar Irani (Rahul) and others, undertake the smooth functioning of Indian weddings.
"Yes, I am doing Arranged Marriage. I play a fashion designer who does a good job, but manages to ruin it all in the end. I work with Rajeshwari and Swetta and together we plan weddings," says Bhaktiar, who can be seen in Sab's Lo Kal Lo Baat, Zee Smile's Home Sweet Home and Star One's The Great Indian Comedy Show.
We ask him if his character is as pansy as the other fashion designers on screen, and pat comes the reply, "This is Arranged Marriage, not Jassi Jaissi..."
For Bhaktiar, the show perhaps has come at an opportune moment. A chance to experience all that goes into making a wedding work and all in time to plan his own impending marriage!
Arranged Marriage...the story so far!
In the first episode of the show (which has an uncanny resemblance to the Jennifer Lopez starrer, The Wedding Planner), Sanjana falls in love with the man whose wedding she is planning. Manoj Bidwai, who plays Ajay Zaveri in Zee Cafe's Bombay Talking plays the to-be groom. The story unfolds from there on. Our sources tell us that the show will have the story of the main characters moving forward in a linear track with episodic characters coming in, in each episode. The show is an one hour weekly and will be on air some time by March end or in April.
PS: Marriage seems to be high on the minds of show makers nowadays, with two new shows dealing with the same theme already ready to air in the first quarter -- Shaadi Street on Star Plus and now, Arranged Marriage!
